Hello, it's been a while since I blogged. I've been experimenting with new ideas for paintings. I am inspired by my husband Neil's beautiful paintings. He often works with dark backgrounds, and it adds a wonderful drama and intensity to his work. I wondered if I could continue my love for painting interiors, but place the furniture on a dark background. Here's my 1st attempt. I think it worked well, and I think I could continue to explore this theme. But I wonder if it works for other people. It's all well and good if you love your own creation. But it's more fun, and profitable, if others find beauty in the paintings as well.

ReplyDeleteI think it is absolutely beautiful, and very dramatic. But think it looks more like "you" as a (horizontal) rectangle, cropping some of that dark background towards the top of the square. Hope that wasn't too preseumptuous, because it really is a beautiful piece...
ReplyDeleteI think it's completely striking and gorgeous and it would be even more so in a setting of white walls, no? It would absolutely sing! I do prefer dark backgrounds, I think. I'm still working out what my style would be if I had any, but of the few paintings I've done so far, I really like the drama of the dark background.
